BC Garn
Yarns from Denmark that get better the more you love them – hand-dyed and carefully selected.
What makes BC Garn special
BC Garn comes from Denmark and has been run as a family business since 1972. Founder Bo Carstensen grew up as the son of a weaver and wool carpet dealer – fibers are not just business to him, but a passion. This care continues to this day: under the leadership of Britta and Carsten Kremke, BC Garn has specialized in natural, sustainable fibers, placing great importance on transparency and Certifications.
What sets BC Garn apart is the focus on fibers that get better over time. For example, Lino becomes softer with every wash and develops a beautiful matte sheen – the exact opposite of short-lived. Organic Balance combines wool and cotton so harmoniously that it can be worn across several seasons and is fully GOTS-certified. Neither are brilliantly designed yarns, but thoughtful answers to real knitting problems.
At BONIFAKTUR, we carry two BC Garn classics that together cover all seasons and projects. For everyone who values knowing what’s in the yarn – and that it will still look beautiful tomorrow.
Yarns at a Glance
BC Garn Linen
Lino is pure linen yarn – cooling, breathable, with the characteristic matte sheen of natural linen fibers. It feels rough at first, a bit stubborn, but with each wash, the Italian flax, dyed in Serbian workshops, gains more hand feel and sheen. Perfect for summer blouses, light shawls, and tops that grow in beauty. Available in 34 colors with Scandinavian aesthetics – not colorful, but thoughtfully designed.
BC Garn Organic Balance (GOTS)
Organic Balance is the yarn for the transitional season – and much more. Wool provides warmth and Elasticity, Cotton ensures coolness and structure. The beauty: When dyeing, the fibers absorb the color differently, creating natural, melanged tones. GOTS-certified means: quality and ethics are checked from the Organic fiber to the finished yarn – gentle enough for baby skin, durable enough for everyday use. With 30 colors, perfect for baby clothes, transitional sweaters, and all projects where beauty and reason come together.
Care
Lino: Machine Wash possible at 30–40°C. Becomes softer with every wash.
Organic Balance: Hand Wash or wool program at 30°C recommended. Both yarns: dry flat.
Certifications
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – with BC Garn Organic Balance
GOTS certifies not only the Organic farming of the fiber but also monitors the entire supply chain: processing, dyeing, working conditions. Organic Balance is completely GOTS-certified from Virgin Wool to Organic Cotton – which is why it is safe enough for the most delicate baby skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does BC Garn come from?
BC Garn is a Danish family business that has existed since 1972. Founder Bo Carstensen came from a family of weavers and wool carpet merchants. Today, Britta and Carsten Kremke continue to run the company – with the same philosophy: Yarns made from natural Fibers that become more beautiful the more you love them.
What does GOTS mean in Organic Balance?
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is one of the strictest Certifications for Organic textiles. It checks not only the Fibers but the entire supply chain – cultivation, processing, dyeing, transport, working conditions. Bio Balance is fully GOTS-certified and therefore safe for baby skin.
What projects is Lino suitable for?
Summer clothing, lightweight shawls, tops, blouses, and bags. Lino is ideal for everything worn in warmth – it breathes, cools, and dries quickly. The big bonus: With every wash, it becomes softer and more elegant, so the fabric doesn’t age but improves.
Organic Balance or Lino – Which Yarn for What?
Lino for summer – cooling, light, wearable for longer periods in warmer months. Organic Balance for the transitional season and baby items – the blend of wool and cotton makes it warm and breathable at the same time, perfect for spring/fall and for babies who need warmth but not heaviness.
Is one Ball enough for a summer shirt?
That depends on the size and the cut. One Ball of Lino has 150m – possibly enough for a light top or a knitted accessory. For a full shirt, you will need several Balls. With Organic Balance at 225m/50g, you should plan similarly.
