Gepard Garn
Danish yarns for timeless projects – from fine Mohair to sturdy Merino, without following trends.
What makes Gepard Garn special
Gepard Garn comes from Denmark and embodies a clear philosophy: quality is created through trust and durability. Founded in 1989 by Sus Gebhard with the dream of a “knitting universe” where every fiber has its own personality, the brand stands for yarns that don’t need to boast. They are simply good – and have been for over 30 years.
The Assortment from Gepard is versatile: from fine luxury fibers like Kid Mohair with Silk to sturdy, everyday Merino yarns. What unites them all is the craftsmanship. Gepard works with the same spinning mills and dye houses – some for decades.
At BONIFAKTUR we carry two yarns from the Gepard Assortment: Kid Seta for special projects with a light, luxurious finish and Woolia for every day – solid Merino that delivers on its promise.
An overview of the two Yarns
Gepard Kid Seta
The flagship of the Brand: the same formula, the same farms, the same care for over 20 years. Kid Seta is knitted with 210 meters in just 25 Grams – feather-light and airy. The Yarn is almost always used together with a carrier yarn (Fingering or DK) and creates the characteristic mohair halo. Perfect for Shawls, fine accessories, and knitted pieces that seem more air than substance. 86 hand-dyed Colors, dyed in small Italian workshops.
Gepard Woolia
The everyday yarn from Gepard: solid, reliable, timeless. Woolia glides smoothly over the needles and creates a calm, even Stitch Definition. With 133 meters per 50 grams, it is ideal for sweaters, cardigans, scarves, and clothing you love to wear all year round. Merino is breathable and temperature-regulating – Woolia caresses the skin without weighing it down. Textures and ribs stand out beautifully.
Combining Mohair: The Most Important Tips
Kid Seta is almost always knitted as a second strand alongside a base yarn. Rule of thumb: use a fingering or DK yarn as the base, with Kid Seta added. Choose a Needle Size slightly larger than for the base yarn alone – this allows the Mohair halo to develop.
Important: Mohair is difficult to unravel. If you notice a mistake, it’s better to fix it immediately rather than wait. The longer the fibers intertwine, the harder it becomes to separate them. Mohair doesn’t itch, sheds very little, and stays soft even after years – this is the result of years of collaboration between the founder, spinning mills, and dye houses.
Which Gepard yarn for which project?
For special shawls and delicate projects: Kid Seta with carrier yarn. For sweaters, scarves, and everyday clothing: Woolia. Both yarns are timeless – they don’t follow trends, they set their own.
Care Tips
Kid Seta: Hand Wash, lukewarm, mild Wool Wash. Mohair yarns are sensitive to mechanical stress – do not wring, roll out in a towel, dry flat. The mohair halo is preserved through gentle handling.
Woolia: Hand Wash recommended, lukewarm, mild Wool Wash. Roll out in a towel, dry flat. Machine washing on the wool program at max. 30°C is also possible, but Hand Wash better preserves the structure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does Gepard Garn come from?
Gepard Garn is a Danish yarn brand, founded in 1989 by Sus Gebhard. The brand works closely with spinning mills and dye houses – some of these partnerships have lasted for decades. Quality arises from this continuity and mutual trust.
What makes Kid Seta so special?
Kid Seta combines Super Kid Mohair with Silk – a formula that has remained unchanged for over 20 years. The characteristic mohair halo, the sheen of the silk, and the hand-dyed colors make it a yarn for timeless knitwear. 210 Meters in just 25 Grams mean maximum elegance with minimal weight.
Can I knit Kid Seta on its own?
Technically yes – but it is not recommended. Knitted alone, Kid Seta has little structure and is very difficult to unravel. Combining it with a carrier yarn (Fingering or DK) gives the piece shape, makes knitting more enjoyable, and unraveling much easier.
How do Kid Seta and Woolia differ?
Kid Seta is the luxury yarn: Mohair & Silk, fine, feather-light, with a halo effect. Ideal For special projects like Shawls and delicate accessories. Woolia is the everyday yarn: 100% Merino, more durable, fully washable, perfect for Sweaters and clothing. Both are timeless and of lasting quality.
Is Woolia machine washable?
Woolia is not superwash, but it can be machine washed at 30°C on the wool program. Hand Wash is recommended to optimally preserve structure and hand feel. Always check the label.
